The Mayor of Orlando has become the first US politician to deliver a speech in the Metaverse.

Hon. Mayor Buddy Dyer, in his Mayoral Avatar, gave his annual ‘State of Downtown’ address today to an all-virtual audience, in the #Metaverse.

The Orlando Economic Partnership is taking the entire region into the metaverse, working with Unity to create a digital twin of the 40-square-mile metro area that will use new 3D technology to map out scenarios on everything, from infrastructure to real estate, to talent availability to climate change.

In a statement, the city says the goal in using this new technology is to emphasise, “technological advancements and investments into the city.”

Earlier this year, BBA became the first blockchain association in the world to open its headquarters in the #Metaverse.
